A-Team - Self Starters
We want to recognize students who are doing their best and making good choices all the time….for attendance, attitude, and academics. Students who earn the privileges of being on the A-Team show that they are accountable to “Everyone… Everywhere… All the Time.” They will be recognized monthly at our Celebration Assembly on Thursday afternoons. They have many extra privileges in the classroom and around the school because they have demonstrated continued ability to be a self-manager. Look for those students with the bright yellow sports bracelet…they are part of the A-team.
Dress Code
Madison prides
itself in maintaining a safe and academically-oriented school.
· Clothing should not be distracting to others. No halter tops, spaghetti straps, or cleavage/tummy showing.
· hoes must be worn at all times. Flip flops or high heels are not safe for active play.
· Please wear coats or jackets on cold and rainy days.
· Clothing depicting drugs, alcohol, tobacco, inappropriate pictures or slogans should not be worn at school.
· Wearing hats, hoods, or any head-covering in the school is not appropriate
Celebration
Assemblies
Twice a month
on Thursdays from 2:45-3:15 pm Madison
staff, students and visitors meet in the gymnasium to celebrate learning and
recognize school and student achievements.
Likeable Lion Certificates and A-Team Recognition are awarded at this
time and special announcements are made.
The Theme Word of the Month, birthdays, and student performances are
celebrated. Parents are welcome to
attend and are contacted when their child is being given a special recognition. Please check in at the office before going to
the gym.
Library
Each class visits the library at least once a week to check out books. Children are encouraged to use the library
individually as often as they wish.
Please encourage your child to return books on time. Book donations are welcomed.
Likeable Lion Student Recognition
Every student at Madison is special. We recognize the strengths of each child through our weekly Likeable Lion program. At one of our monthly Celebration Assemblies, Likeable Lion students are given a award and a certificate. They eat lunch with the school principal. Parents are notified ahead of time if their child is the Likeable Lion. We encourage parents to attend the Likeable Lion assembly.
Mascot And Colors
The mascot for our school is the Lion. Our school colors are blue and white. Show pride by wearing our school colors on Fridays or Walk and Roll Wednesdays.
Lost and Found
Items of
clothing found in the general school area will be placed in the Lost and
Found. You may claim them in the hallway
near the gym off the parking lot. Please
check this area whenever you visit the school.
Lunch Buddies
The Lunch Buddies program, a Madison
original, was the recipient of a Presidential Point of Light Award and a 1990
WSCEA Innovative Community Education Activity Award. It has received write ups in papers as far
away as the London Times. Through the
Lunch Buddy program, caring adults spend one lunch hour a week at school with a
specific student buddy in a supervised setting. The lunch buddies have lunch
together and also play board games, read, create art, play on the playground or
just talk. Parental consent is required
for a child to participate.
Medication
A signed order from a doctor or dentist, along with a parent request, must be sent to school if a student is
to take medication during the school day.
School districts have been advised that this requirement INCLUDES
OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICATIONS (i.e., aspirin, cold tablets, etc.) as well as
medications prescribed by the doctor or dentist. We are required to follow this procedure by
state law. RCW 28A.31.150.
Doctor or dentist medication request forms are available in the school office. They are also available at your doctor's office. Medication must be in the original containers and clearly marked with the student's name, type, amount and frequency of dosage. All medications must be kept in the school office, unless agreed upon by the parent and the school district nurse. Please call the office for more information.
Money
Students should not bring extra
money to school. If money is required
for an after-school activity, or if you are sending money for school purposes,
please put it in a sealed envelope with the student's name, teacher, amount
enclosed, and purpose written on the envelope. Give it to the teacher or office
for safe keeping.
Pick-Up and Drop-Off
Safety is our main concern.
· Cars are to enter Madison’s back entrance off Legion Way and proceed in a wide circle around the parking areas toward the building
· To lessen the traffic congestion of waiting cars at the back entrance, try to park at the church lot on Legion Way across the street. You can walk through the front entrance and pick up your child.
· Children are to be picked up or dropped off at the curb.
· Do not double park or leave your car unattended. This is especially important before school.
· Please avoid driving in the bus unloading/loading area.
Power Outages
In the event the power is out, the phones at Madison will also be out. If you call when the phones are out you will hear a ring but the phone will not be working at Madison. The school does have a cell phone and CB radio for out-going emergency communication at these times.
School Pictures
Both individual and group pictures are taken during the school year. Individual pictures are in the fall and class pictures in the spring. You will be notified prior to the date through the school newsletter. Parents are under no obligation to purchase these pictures.
Snow Closure
Information
If it is snowing or there is other bad weather, then tune in to a local radio
station or check the district website - http://www.osd.wednet.edu/. Information will be provided about a school
closure, late openings, and early closure as soon as it is available.
Please do not telephone either the school or the radio stations or ask your
child to call you. Discuss a plan ahead
of time with your child. Phones must be
kept free for emergency use.
Voter Registration
We would like to remind parents, especially new parents in the area that you may register to vote in the Madison School office.
