Parent Participation

Birthday Treats
Children often like to bring a treat to school to share and celebrate their birthdays.  Treats should be small, healthy, and easily served (see Snacks).  Please note that some teachers prefer other rewards rather than treats to celebrate a birthday.  If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday at school, please make arrangements with your child's teacher.  Elaborate birthday gifts such as limousine rides, floral bouquets, and candy are discouraged.

Classroom Help
Parent involvement is welcome in all classrooms.  Every kind of help is appreciated:  talking about your job or hobby, listening to a child read, helping correct papers, playing a math game, or helping the teacher with clerical duties.  If you have a particular talent, skill, or interest you would like to share with your child's class, just let the teacher know.  Volunteers must fill out a Volunteer Application Form available in the office.

Classroom Parties
Two class parties are allowed each year.  Let your child's teacher know if you would like to participate.  Remember the guidelines for bringing healthy food under Snacks.

Educational Leadership Team and the Madison Action Team

Parents and teachers meet monthly to address progress toward the school goals.  These two groups are a parent-staff advisory group and action committee that review school goals and objectives.  They meet the last Tuesday of each month from 3:40 - 5:00.

PTO Mission Statement
"To provide activities and resources which will enhance the lives of the Madison School students, families, staff, and community members"

The Madison Booster Club is a group of parents, teachers, and community members who strive to achieve our mission statement.  This group is not affiliated with the national parent teacher association and there are no dues or fees of any kind.

A number of fundraising activities and family activities are planned by the PTO.

·         Fall Fundraiser

·         Scholastic Book Faire

·         Holiday Shop

·         Sock Hop

·         Bingo Night

The Capital Rotary Club and First United Methodist Church has adopted our school and is an active participant in supporting PTO students and Madison staff.

The PTO meets the first Thursday of each month from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.  Child care is offered during the meetings.  Come and help us plan activities that you and your child will enjoy!

Passports

Passports is a family homework program in which students learn about geography and culture around the world.  Each month, your child will be challenged to learn an identified number of countries or capitals.  At our monthly Passports Checks, they are awarded stamps on their “passport” to the world.  We need volunteers to help for these monthly checks.

 Visiting our School
Parents are always welcome as visitors and helpers at school.  If you are interested and able to spend time at school, please call and arrange a time with the teacher.

For your child's safety, the school monitors visitors in the building. All visitors must stop by the office, sign in and pick up a Visitor badge before going to the classroom.

·         If you are interested in meeting with the teacher to talk about your child's progress, please call ahead of time to make an appointment.

·         Please remember that the use of tobacco or alcohol in any form is not allowed on school district property.  This includes playground and parking lots whether school is in session or not.  Please respect this in compliance with RCW 28A.210.310 and Olympia School District Policy 4114 (11-13-90).
