The School Day

Hours/Arrival Time:  8:55 - 3:22 

·       Children who walk or are dropped-off should not arrive before 8:45 a.m. Supervision is not provided during this time.

·       Children who eat breakfast at school should not arrive before 8:35 a.m.  Breakfast ends at 8:50am.

·       At the beginning of the day, students have assigned line-up areas in the gym for orderly entry into the classroom.

·       At the end of the day, students are expected to wait for parents to pick them up at the back entrance of the school in assigned areas. 

·       Preschool hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 am - 11:40 pm for the morning session and 12:40pm - 3:22pm for the afternoon session.

  

Absence/Late Arrival/Becca Bill
The school is required to verify all absences to make sure your child is safe.  Please call the school office at 596-6300 between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. when your child is tardy or absent from school. 

·       Students who are late should check in the office for a late slip before going to class.

·       Please try to set up doctor and dental appointments outside of the day if possible.  Our math instruction and reading block are taught before lunch. 

·       Arrangements can be made through the office for school work to be sent home if a child is absent for extended time. 

·       The Becca Bill, a truancy citation, may be enforced for students who miss ten unexcused days of school.  Absences may affect learning.

After School Arrangements
For your child's protection, please notify the office by phone, or send a signed and dated note if there is any change in your child's after-school routine.  Without proper notification, the Olympia School District requires Madison staff to maintain the child's original schedule.

 

Bus Transportation and Bus Behavior

If your child is eligible for bus transportation to and from school, call the OSD Transportation office at 596-7700 for pick-up and drop-off times and location of the bus stop.

A number of rules have been established for bus safety.

·         Passengers must obey the driver’s request promptly and willingly at all times.

·         Students will use appropriate language and noise level at all times.

·         Students shall remain seated while the bus is in motion.

·         Students will use appropriate behavior at the bus stop and on the bus

If a student disobeys the bus rules, the bus driver will:

·         Give a warning, have a private talk, assign seats, notify parent, give a written violation, and/or suspend student from riding the bus.

Lunch Tickets

        School lunches are paid through a debit card system.  If you want your child to eat a hot lunch at school, he/she must have money in the account.  Money should be sent to school in an envelope with your child's name and account number on the front.  The account number is the same as their library number.  Your child is given a note to take home to let you know when the account is low and additional money is needed.  Please keep track of what you send so you will have an idea when the note will be coming.  If a student has no money in his/her account, s/he will be given a cheese sandwich for lunch and the account charged $.50.

Free and Reduced lunch applications are available in the school office. 

Breakfast is served from 8:35 to 8:50 a.m.

School Communication-Friday Folders

Please check your child's organization skills folder or binder each Friday for school newsletters, teachers' notes, field trip notices, and other important announcements from school. 

 

YMCA Before/After School Daycare
The YMCA provides before and after-school daycare in our building.  This daycare operates from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The fee can be negotiated, based on need, on a case by case basis.  Please contact the YMCA at 705-2642 for pick up information in the school office if you are interested in this program.
