Background Information

I started teaching kindergarten in Hoquiam in 1972. I moved from the beach area to Lynnwood and taught 4th grade with other assignments that year of girls PE, Reading coordinator for first grade to third grade. I moved back into kindergarten in Belluvue. I then left teaching to marry in 1977 and raise my two girls. I came back to teaching kindergarten in Tenino. Then I got my special education endorsement and started teaching preschool in Tenino. When I was offered a position to come to Madison and start their first preschool, I was excited for the challenge and enjoyed it for many years. I promoted to my first love of kindergarten again 5 years ago.

My husband is a park ranger for the state of Washington. My two girls are both teachers. My oldest is married and teaches preschool for the North Thurston School District. My youngest is a new teacher for the Tumwater School District.

I am a mountaineer and love to scramble in the mountains. I love chocolate and not coffee. I love E-mail and I don't remember to answer or listen to my voice messaging. I love to read and spend time with my family.

Classroom Information

We are fortunate to have the Waterford reading program at Madison. We are the only kindergarten in the district to have it. Video Tapes or DVD's are now available with Waterford as a home piece. I appreciate all the snacks parents provide. With the Harcourt Reading program we have take homes that are to be returned after the parent signs them. All day kindergarten is a gift of time. We can do lots of science. The children are enjoying our classroom snails at the present. We study wood, paper and trees in kindergarten.
