Update on Hybrid In-Person Learning

Elementary, middle and high school students currently attending hybrid in-person learning two days a week will attend school in person four days a week starting on Monday, May 3, provided COVID-19 transmission rates continue to support additional students on campus.

Learn about the role of a school board director and get information about the two Olympia School Board seats up for election in the November 2021 General Election during a community meeting on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. People interested in vying for a seat on the school board, as well as those who want to learn more about the role, are encouraged to attend the online meeting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Zoom (Zoom information is included at the end of this article).

School playgrounds and fields closed to public while in session

We recognize that many community members have enjoyed the use of school fields, playgrounds and parking lots while district school campuses were closed for COVID-19. Please remember, however, that our students have returned for in-person hybrid learning and extracurricular activities. Thus, all of our campuses are again closed for community use during school hours. District tracks and fields are also closed to community use after school hours when in use by student groups/teams or others who have rented our facilities. Additionally, playgrounds at Roosevelt, McKenny and Garfield elementary schools are closed until 6 p.m. weekdays in order to accommodate after-school childcare programs. Thank you for your support as we continue to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Student Transfers

Any student desiring to attend or continue to attend school in the Olympia School District, outside of their regular attendance area shall apply for a transfer. The Executive Director of Elementary Education and the Executive Director of Secondary Education will accept names for the waitlist as outlined on the Olympia School District Student Transfers Webpage.

Free meals continue throughout school year

Students may pick up free grab-and-go lunch, and if desired breakfast for the following day, at school district meal distribution sites starting on the first day of school Wednesday, September 9.

Providing a safe learning environment is our number one priority. The Olympia School District is working closely with the Thurston County Department of Health and monitoring reports of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). The OSD also follows the Washington State Department of Health Decision Tree in our response.

New state guidance on high school athletics

New state guidelines have been announced regarding high school athletics and an upgrade of our region to Phase 2 of the Governor’s Healthy Roadmap to Recovery. Based on Department of Health guidance, Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Healthy Washington Sport and Activity Guidelines, and WIAA Return to Play Guidelines, the Olympia School District plans to start WIAA Modified Season 1 sports on Monday, February 1, 2021.
